We are turning our September Board meeting into an all-member dinner party at the Fireside restaurant at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14!
At our July board meeting it was decided to file for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS so that member contributions can be tax deductible which of course requires a called membership meeting with a 30-day advance notice. (Click the link to read the proposed amendment.)
After taking care of our "legal" business Genie Massey will be leading a discussion of our youth engagement initiatives. The League has been invited to facilitate a "Project Citizen" program with a group of Washington County middle school students! This is a great chance to introduce young people to civic skills and help them grow in their understanding of grassroots power. Anyone interested in participating is invited to join in the conversation, even non-members.
Plus, National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, September 19th. After our success last year registering new voters at Hagerstown Community College, we have been invited back! We also plan to support student-led voter registration drives at local high schools. North High already has student leaders signed up and we are recruiting seniors at other high schools across the county. Join us in person at our September 14th meeting to pick up supplies for National Voter Registration Day (Sept.19).
